The difference between Maintenance and Billable Projects

Maintenance Projects & Program Administration Projects

The Facilities Operations & Services division of University Facilities provides maintenance services to academic and administrative facilities.  These include:

 

  • Providing routine preventative maintenance (PM) services to buildings  
  • Monitoring building system life-cycles
  • Replacing building systems or equipment

2006 Cost Guide

When building systems reach the end of their life cycles and must be replaced, these projects are considered Maintenance Projects and are funded through state allocations.  Additionally, all preventative maintenance services are funded through state allocations. 

Program Administration projects are funded from a variety of sources including central administration funding, state funding or student fee funding.

Billable Projects

University departments requiring renovation or upgrade of building systems to meet program needs are funded by the requesting department.  Examples include the following:

  • Upgraded electrical, plumbing, or HVAC service for new equipment  
  • Upgrade of existing space to receive a new faculty or staff member
  • Reconfiguration of existing space to accommodate programming
